Building Beauty Branding

Creating a contemporary, architecturally inspired identity for the royal fine art commission trust's: Building Beauty AWARDS. celebrating excellency in modern architecture.

Our identity for the awards encompasses the process of ‘Building Beauty’, from the clean, precise lines of plans, to the layering of raw materials from construction. Following the concept, we took a beautifully simple approach to the styling, clearing out any unnecessary noise to allow the entrants’ work to shine through.

INSPIRATION FOR THE IDENTITY

Architect Lord Norman Foster and design writer & founder of The Design Museum, Stephen Bayley are just two of the industry experts behind the awards. Inspired by their most famous work, notably, Foster’s British Museum, metropolitan icons, and Bayley’s work on the V&A and Design Museum, we created a logo that lent itself to movement and space, with the feel of lightness and modernity, perfectly balanced with details of classical architecture. The very graphical styling of the arches borrows from the architectural plans of the Basilica San Marco, as well as Christopher Wren’s Sheldonian Theatre.

A World of Beauty

We created a series of applications using the logo playfully and elegantly, interchangeably both typographically and as decorative arches. Following on the minimal, unfinished look & feel, we incorporated the use of textures and a pale grey colour palette, with hint of red to build on the overarching concept of process.
